CARE Housing is honored to announce it is the recipient of the 2011 community garden installation by the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado. On Friday, April 22, 2011 – Earth Day – a team of ALCC contractors installed ten garden plots, measuring 10 feet by 12 feet each, on the east side of CARE Housing at Swallow. The project included fencing, gathering areas, a storage shed and many plantings native to northern Colorado and consistent with the Swallow Road community. The ALCC selected CARE Housing's Swallow Road community from other candidates due to the large number of families with children, as well as the property providing an ideal spot for development.

We are very grateful for the generosity of the ALCC and its members. We were surprised to learn of the selection and excited to become more involved with our residents on this project that will help our community for years to come. We are also very thankful to Mary Miller of the City of Fort Collins and the Gardens at Spring Creek for their continued guidance in helping CARE Housing communities install additional garden sites and learn of opportunities for health and nutrition classes.
